PLAID COLUMNS
ABOUT PLAID COLUMNS
Matre Gallery owner Rob Matre has been making mixed-media paintings for over thirty years, and since 2013 under the name Plaid Columns. The unique moniker came about when he began making artworks in collaboration with Evan Jones. “Plaid Columns”, an old band name that Matre never used from his music days, simply seemed like more fun than “Rob & Evan”. The name came to define the style and subject matter of the series, so the Plaid Columns name stuck even after Matre returned to making works on his own when it came time for Evan to focus on his own burgeoning career.
Matre’s Plaid Columns paintings were featured in a ten-year retrospective at The Albany Museum of Art in early 2024, in his hometown of Albany, Georgia.
